Privacy Policy
Effective September 29, 2026. The short version: we collect what the app and your map need to work, we don't sell it, and you can delete it.
Who we are
Alpenglow Maps (“Alpenglow,” “we,” “us”) makes framed LED trail maps, the Alpenglow app, and this website. This policy covers all three. If you have a question about it, email support@alpenglowmaps.com.
What we collect
Your account
When you sign in to the app with Apple, Google, or email, our sign-in provider (Clerk) holds your email address and any name you add. Our own servers keep your email, an account ID, your favorite mountains, your alert settings, and whether you told us you own a map.
Ski days and location
Recording a ski day is optional. When you start one, the app uses your precise location, including in the background, to record a GPS track (position, altitude, speed, and time) until you stop. Points are saved on your phone first. When the day ends, the track is uploaded to our servers so we can match it to trails and show your runs, stats, and replays.
The app also uses your location while it is open to sort nearby mountains and detect which one you are at. That location stays on your phone and is not sent to us.
Strava (optional)
If you connect Strava, we receive your Strava athlete ID and name, access tokens, and the GPS data of activities you import. You can disconnect Strava at any time.
Notifications
If you turn on alerts, we store a push token for your phone and a log of which alerts we sent you.
Your map
During setup, the app sends your home Wi-Fi network name and password directly to your map over its setup hotspot. The map stores them so it can reconnect. They are never sent to our servers. When you add a map to your account, we store its device ID and the name you give it. Maps check in with our servers for trail conditions and software updates, sending their device ID, hardware model, and software version. Maps fetch weather from Open-Meteo using the mountain's coordinates, or a location you set on the map yourself.
The app looks for maps on your local network to set them up and control them. That traffic stays on your network.
Orders
Payments are handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email, shipping address, and what you bought so we can build and ship your map. We never see or store your card number.
Mountain requests
When you request a mountain, we store your email, the mountain, and any details you choose to add, such as a note or preferred size.
What we don't collect
We don't use advertising IDs, ad networks, or third-party analytics in the app or on this website. Share cards are created on your phone and only go where you send them.
How we use it
- To run your account and sync your ski days across sessions.
- To match your tracks to trails and calculate your stats.
- To send the trail and conditions alerts you turn on.
- To keep your map updated with live conditions and software.
- To process, build, ship, and support your order.
- To email you about a mountain you requested, if you asked us to.
- To keep our services secure and fix problems.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and ski days until you delete them. Order records are kept as long as we need them for accounting, tax, and warranty purposes. Mountain requests are kept until you ask us to remove them or delete your account. Server logs are short-lived.
Your choices
- Location:you can change location access in your phone's settings at any time. Ski day recording needs it, but the rest of the app works without it.
- Notifications:turn alerts off in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Ski days: delete any individual day in the app.
- Delete your account: go to Account, then Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, ski days, favorites, alerts, Strava connection, and mountain requests, and releases your maps. Order records are kept as described above.
- Everything else: email support@alpenglowmaps.comto access, correct, or delete your information, or to ask for a copy of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor them.
Security
We use encrypted connections between the app and our servers, limit who on our team can access personal information, and rely on established providers for sign-in and payments. No system is perfectly secure, so if you believe your account has been compromised, email us right away.
Children
Alpenglow is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Where your data is stored
Alpenglow is based in the United States, and our servers are in the United States. If you use Alpenglow from elsewhere, your information will be processed there.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app or by email.
